Adding Users to the Control Panel

Overview

This guide explains how to add additional users to your Minecraft server in the control panel in Obsidian Servers. Adding users allows you to grant others access to manage your server without sharing your primary account credentials.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Log in to the Obsidian Servers panel at panel.obsidianservers.com

  2. Select your Minecraft server from the dashboard

  3. Look for the sidebar menu and locate the "Configuration" section

  4. Click on "Users" under the Configuration tab

  5. On the Users page, click the "New User" button

  6. Fill in the required information:

    • Email Address: Enter the email of the person you wish to add
    • Permissions: Select the appropriate permission level for this user
  7. Common permission options include:

    • File Management: Access to view and modify server files
    • Console Access: Ability to view and send commands to the server console
    • Subuser Management: Ability to add/remove other users
    • Backup Management: Create and restore server backups
    • Settings Access: Change server configuration settings
  8. After selecting the appropriate permissions, click "Add User" or "Create" to finalize

Managing Existing Users

To modify or remove existing users:

  1. Navigate to the Users section under Configuration
  2. Find the user you wish to modify
  3. Click on the "Edit" button to change permissions
  4. Or click on the "Delete" button to remove their access entirely

Permission Tips

  • Console Access: Gives users the ability to run commands on your server but not modify files
  • File Management: Allows users to upload plugins, modify configuration files, etc.
  • Full Administrative Access: Grants users nearly all the same permissions as the server owner

Security Recommendations

  • Only add users you trust to access your server
  • Consider asking the user to enable two factor authentication to improve security on the account
  • Grant only the specific permissions each user needs
  • Regularly review who has access to your server
  • Remove users who no longer need access
  • Consider using temporary access for one-time assistance
